At Te Tumu Paeroa, good communication is essential to what we do. Every communication counts because every owner and every block of land counts.

Our writing needs to be clear, purposeful, and easy to understand, so our owners know what’s happening with their whenua no matter where they are. We need to use everyday words that people can relate to, whether that’s in English or te reo Māori.

When we write to other agencies on their behalf, we need to be clear and concise to make the process smooth and effective. We also need to communicate clearly with each other, so that we meet our owners’ needs efficiently and well.

Writing in plain language helps us to connect with our owners and build trust. When we have a foundation of trust, we are better able to support our owners to protect and enhance their land and assets.

Our guidelines will help you apply the principles of good writing and meet our Plain Language Standard. Use it alongside our toikura personas to help you connect with our owners.

Mā te kōrero ka mohio, mā te mōhio ka mātau, mā te mātau ka mārama, mā te mārama ka ora.

Knowledge from words, proficiency from knowledge, understanding from proficiency, health from understanding.
